After the Al-Sadd scandal, Al-Nasr is challenging the AFC
Challenging the AFC, the president of Al-Nasr, Musli Al Muammar, sent a stern message regarding the round of 16’s game. This comes in light of the reports of a decision to choose a neutral stadium for the match between the Saudi Al-Nasr and the Iranian Tractor.
Subsequently, on his official Twitter account, Al Muammar tweeted:
“The AFC decision is clear; we are the winners of the group. And whoever leads, plays the round of 16 at home.”
He defiantly added, “Playing the match against Tractor at Mrsool Park is a right that we will not give up.”
The Saudi club will face its Iranian opponent in the round of 16 of the AFC Champions League 2021.
Sports journalist Walid Al-Faraj had revealed that Al-Nasr will meet his Iranian opponent on a neutral stadium.
Al-Faraj indicated that this will be in accordance with a decision from the Asian Football Confederation.
Moreover, he indicated that Al-Hilal (KSA) will also play against Esteghlal Tehran (Iran) in the round of 16 of the Asian Championship on a neutral stadium.
The statements of the President of Al-Nasr challenging the AFC raised many questions about the decision to be issued by the Confederation.
Commenting on the tweet of the President of Al-Nasr, the former spokesman for Al-Nasr Club, Abdullah bin Zanan, said that Al-Nasr has the right to play the match in the round of 16 at home.
Bin Zanan said, “It is Al Nasr’s right to play in the round of 16 at home.”
“If Al-Hilal does not want to go to Iran, then let them wait for the approval of the AFC and the Iranian team to play its match on a neutral stadium,” he added.
He continued, “But Al-Nasr has nothing to do with that at all. What ignorant people say is just ridiculous.”
The AFC Champions League 2021 Round of 16 will be played from a single match on September 14-15.
Al-Nassr had qualified for Group D with 11 points.
The Saudi club’s qualification came one point ahead of the Qatari club Al-Sadd.
Al-Nassr defeated Al-Sadd 2-1 in the decisive match that took place on Thursday which sparked great controversy.
The match witnessed several mistakes committed by the referee, which paved the way for the victory of the Saudi club at the expense of Qatar’s champion.
