Al Thumama Stadium in Qatar, a Unique World Cup Stadium
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy in Qatar has announced that the final stages of Al Thumama World Cup Stadium construction are almost complete.
The official account of the committee shared some pictures of Al Thumama Stadium. It is one of the eight stadiums that will host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Al Thumama Stadium takes its shape from the “gahfiya”. It is a traditional Arab cap and a fundamental layer of the traditional clothing of men in the Middle East.
The stadium will host the 2022 World Cup matches from the group stage to the quarter-final stage.
The stadium has a capacity of 40,000 seats.
The committee stressed that Al Thumama will be a very important spot in society. Not only inside the stadium but also through the surrounding area.
It explained that the area surrounding the stadium will become a community center. And will include fields and facilities for various sports.
It described the stadium as “the center of the society” due to its great significance to the area.
Additionally, the sustainable design of the stadium saves 40% of water consumption.
The area surrounding the stadium includes native vegetation and almost 400 trees.
The committee said, referring to the legacy the stadium will leave. It will donate some of the seats after the end of the World Cup to meet the requirements of Qatari sport.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy assured that the eight stadiums will be completed well before the start of the World Cup.
It clarified that this will serve as a key test of the readiness of the stadiums in anticipation of receiving thousands of fans during the World Cup.
