Atletico Madrid appeals against Griezmann ban in the Champions League

Spanish club Atletico Madrid has appealed the ban imposed by the European Football Association “UEFA” against French player Antoine Griezmann during the Liverpool match in the Champions League.

It is scheduled, according to the Spanish newspaper, “Mundo Deportivo” that the European Union will make its decision on Friday by the Turkish Appeals Judge Levent Betsaki.

The newspaper pointed out that Atletico Madrid decided to resort to the International Sports Court if the decision was in support of the ban issued against the Rojiblancos striker.

Atletico Madrid relied on that Griezmann did not mean Roberto Firmino in the match, especially since the latter did not need a medical device to recover from the docking, which confirms that the game was not as dangerous as some imagine.

In a related context, it was confirmed that French star Antoine Griezmann was absent from his guest match against AC Milan, scheduled for next Wednesday evening, in the fifth round of Group B, in the Champions League group stage, due to the suspension.

The Spanish “El Chiringuito” program stated that the Atletico Madrid administration received a notification in the few hours from the European Football Association “UEFA”, to suspend the French star Antoine Griezmann for the second match in a row, and therefore his absence from facing AC Milan.

The French striker was expelled in the Liverpool match in the third round, after his violent attack on Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino, in the second half of the match, which the Reds won 3-2, which caused the referee to announce the red card and expel him directly.

Atlético Madrid had been surprised by the failure to announce Griezmann’s penalty and demanded the European Football Association to resolve the matter so that the technical staff could identify his situation, whether by suspending one or two matches.

Griezmann starred in the Champions League with Atletico Madrid so far this season, scoring three goals in 3 games, but he scored two goals and made only one of 12 matches in the Spanish League.

It is worth noting that Atlético Madrid is third in Group B with 4 points, behind Liverpool, the leader with 12 points, and has qualified for the next round, then Porto, with 5 points, is in second place.
