Xavi: We could have scored more against Real Madrid, and I do not rule out winning the League
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez confirmed that his team could have scored more goals against Real Madrid in the Clasico, praising his players who played one of their best matches this season.
Barcelona reached a crushing victory over its rivals Real Madrid, with four goals without return, in the Clasico that brought them together on Sunday evening, at the Santiago Bernabeu in the 29th round of the Spanish League competition.
Xavi said, during his statements after the match: “I am a Barcelona coach and a fan at the same time, we have to enjoy it, we did not play a perfect match, but a great match.”
He added, “I am very happy with the team’s performance today and beating the leaders at home. I do not think we will win the league, but we do not rule out anything. We were expecting a more difficult match.”
He continued, “Today we hit the table. We played a great match and could have scored more. We played very well and this is a day to enjoy. You compare this match with the 6-2 match? Yes, it is a match similar to that.”
And he added: “I am very happy because we were much better, we knew how to play against them, created several chances and knew how to attack them. We played a great match, in the last 20 minutes they attacked and this is normal when you are ahead by 4 goals.”
This result made Real Madrid at the top of the Spanish league standings, despite the defeat with 66 points, 10 points ahead of its closest competitor, Seville, the runner-up with 56 points.
