Barcelona announces the face of Mexican Pumas in the Joan Gamper Cup
Barcelona announced in an official statement that it will face its Mexican counterpart Pumas in the Joan Gamper Cup, after the withdrawal of the Italian Roma, where it will play a match for the men’s team and another for the women for the second time in the history of the tournament.
Barcelona, led by Xavi Hernandez, will play on Sunday, 7 August at 8pm at the Spotify Camp Nou against Universidad Nacional de Mexico, better known as Pumas.
While the women’s team will play a few days later, on August 23, at 8 pm, against France’s Montpellier, at the Johan Cruyff Stadium in the Sports City.
Roma’s refusal to play in the tournament with both men’s and women’s teams forced Barcelona to search for rivals with a time limit limiting options for finding clubs to play the match on the same day.
Italian press reports said that Milan will not compete with Barcelona in the annual Joan Gamper Cup.
The Italian Roma had unilaterally terminated his contract with Barcelona, and announced that he would not face Barca in the Joan Gamper Cup.
It is worth noting that the Barcelona team is preparing to take legal action against Roma, and to obtain compensation for the damages caused by its sudden decision to withdraw.
