Barcelona’s response to the Palestinian Federation

Barcelona FC responded to the protest of the Palestinian Federation against playing a friendly match with the Israeli club Betar, in occupied Jerusalem.

In fact, the Palestinian Federation published a statement on its Facebook account. It denounced Barcelona’s decision to play a friendly match against Betar in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Federation called on the Spanish club to reconsider the selection of the venue for the match.

Joan Laporta said: “We have received your letter in which you expressed your concern. About Barcelona organizing a friendly match in Jerusalem.”

Moreover, he added, “We would like to inform you that FC Barcelona has not announced the pre-season calendar through its official channels yet.”

Laporta explained: “So, the club has not communicated and has not confirmed the holding of any friendly match for the men’s football team in Jerusalem. As you know, FC Barcelona is a democratic sports institution committed to basic rights and principles”

He concluded: “And, it has always expressed, through its actions. As the club’s history confirms, its clear defense of the rights and freedoms of all the peoples of the earth.”
