Carvajal: Spain has won the battle of Greece, and the victory remains against Sweden

Dani Carvajal confirmed that the Spanish national team won its first battle by defeating Greece at home in the European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

To top his group at the expense of Sweden, which he will face on Sunday in Seville at the end of the group stage and needs a draw only in order to guarantee direct qualification to the World Cup.

Carvajal, returning to start against Greece, after a year and two months of absence, in a match that Spain narrowly won with a clean goal signed by Pablo Sarabia from a penalty kick, said:

“I was away from the national team for a long time, I didn’t play not because I wasn’t good, but because of the injury. It was complicated and I had more than one setback. It also costs mentally, but I got over these things and now I’m enjoying again with the national team.”

The Real Madrid defender stressed:

“But the most important thing is next Sunday’s match against Sweden. We have to settle the direct qualification ticket to the World Cup. We succeeded in resolving the first battle, and it remains for us to confirm the qualification ticket by winning on Sunday.”

He stressed the importance of playing among his country’s fans in Seville in the last qualifiers:

“Playing at home and in front of your fans is the best thing that can happen in a match like this. The fans will give us the energy we need, especially in our weak times.”

Spain leads the group with 16 points, one point ahead of Sweden, which fell by two clean goals in the last round against Georgia
