Chelsea renews the contract of captain Azpilicueta
Officially… Chelsea renews the contract of captain Cesar Azpilicueta for two years
Chelsea announced today, Thursday, the renewal of the contract of Spanish captain Cesar Azpilicueta, for at least two years, to continue his career with the club until 2024, since his arrival in the summer of 2012 from Marseille, France.
A club statement said: “César Azpilicueta has signed a new contract with Chelsea, to continue his decade-long football career for at least two more years. Over 200 games, he is now committed to his future with Chelsea until 2024.
After signing the new contract, Azpilicueta said: “I’m really happy to extend my stay at Chelsea, it’s been almost 10 years since I first arrived at the club, so I feel really loved and I’m really excited about the new project that we have.”
“I would like to say thank you to Mr. Todd and Mr. Baghdad for giving me the opportunity to continue my journey at this wonderful club and I am really looking forward to continuing our adventure. I am a really proud captain and I hope we can share many good memories together.”
Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel succeeded in persuading the captain to continue, especially after the departure of Anthony Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen to Barcelona in free deals this summer.
