Coutinho: I want to be at my best with Aston Villa

Newly arrived Brazilian Philippe Coutinho from Aston Villa has spoken of his aspirations after returning to the Premier League from the gate of Villains on loan from Barcelona.

“I have known Steven Gerrard for a long time, played with him, learned a lot from him, admired him a lot, and I hope to do my best here, and I hope that together we can do a good job,” Coutinho said in a press statement.

“It is a pleasure to be here with Aston Villa, a great club,” Coutinho said. “I spoke a lot with coach Gerrard and he told me about the club and his ambitions.”

And Coutinho continued: “Now I am waiting for a beautiful meeting, which is to meet the fans, and I know and feel that they are happy to be here and I want to repeat that on the field and enjoy football.”

“I always want to be in my best shape and do my job and that’s what I work for every day,” Coutinho said.

Coutinho went to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 for £146m but after having a nightmare in Catalonia he was loaned to Bayern Munich in the 2019-20 season before returning to Camp Nou.

Barcelona are keen to reduce their salary bill as Coutinho earns a salary of £370,000 a week.

The English club Aston Villa offered Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho, after joining the ranks of the villains, on loan until the end of the current season, the option to buy.

The Brazilian player will wear the number 23 shirt, as the villains wrote via the official account on “Twitter”: “Welcome to Aston Villa Football Club, Philippe Coutinho.”

The club confirmed, through an official statement, earlier, that “Philippe Coutinho has successfully completed his medical examination and is currently in France to obtain a work permit.”
