Criticism for Choosing Mrsool Park Stadium for the Saudi National Team

In the recent months, Mrsool Park stadium was chosen as a home ground for the Saudi national team. This sparked a wave of criticism on social media in Saudi Arabia towards the technical Director who chose this stadium to host the matches of the team in the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.

Herve Renard has chosen Mrsool Park in Riyadh as the home ground for the Saudi national team instead of the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium or King Fahd International Stadium. This decision witnessed a wave of mockery and sarcastic comments from the Saudi fans on Twitter. They expressed their objection to the decision of the team’s coach. They said that winning against weak teams made him optimistic. The Saudi fans hope that the team faces a strong opponent that roasts Herve in Mrsool Park.

Renard made some controversial statements praising Mrsool Park after the end of Saudi Arabia’s matches in the Asian qualifiers.

A fan sarcastically asked the administration of Musalli Al-Muammar, the president of Al-Nassr to postpone the summer planting at Mrsool Park Stadium until after the end of the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup. This way the stadium will not be available to host the matches.

Last year, Al-Nassr Club won the right to use the King Saud University Stadium after a competition with Al-Hilal. Al-Hilal had been benefiting from it during the past years, and called it “Mrsool Park Stadium.”

This month, the Saudi team played two matches on the grounds of Mrsool Park against Yemen and Singapore in the double qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the 2023 Asian Cup. The ground of the stadium looked different from how it was in the era of Al Hilal.

Media Criticism of Mrsool Park

The Sports journalist, Batal Al-Qaws, shared on his official account on Twitter, “The ground of the Mrsool Park stadium is not the same as before. Did you notice it, too, or am I exaggerating?”

The journalist Mohammed AlDarae replied to him, “Indeed, the ground is substandard. Alwasail company must take responsibility for it as the current operator.”

The fans said it is necessary to obtain maintenance fees for the Mrsool Park stadium since there is a desire for the Saudi team to play the matches on Al-Nassr stadium and get one million riyals in return for benefiting from the stadium and hosting matches for the Saudi national team.
