Doha Hosts the Final of the African Super Cup

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced, on Tuesday, that Doha will host the African Super Cup final later in May.

In a press release about the upcoming final, CAF stated that Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Al Sadd Club will host the final of the African Super Cup, scheduled for May 28.

 

The final match will be between Al-Ahly of Egypt and the Moroccan RS Berkane.

As a result, CAF decided to hold the match at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.

It mentioned that the squads of Al-Ahly and Berkane will undergo a “medical bubble” on May 25th.

Moreover, they will have a PCR test to check for “Covid-19” 48 hours before the match.

Al-Ahly of Egypt will play the African Super Cup final as the winner of the CAF Champions League. Al-Ahly had defeated its traditional rival Zamalek of Egypt in the final match of the tournament.

On the other hand, Berkane is participating in the Super Cup as the winner of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Moroccan club had defeated its Egyptian opponent, Pyramids FC, in the final match of the tournament.

This is the third time in a row that Doha hosts the final of the African Super Cup, after hosting the past two consecutive editions.

In the past two editions of the tournament hosted by Doha, Raja Casablanca won the African Super Cup in 2019, and Zamalek won the title in 2020.

The Raja CA 2019 title came at the expense of its Tunisian opponent, Esperance ST.

Egypt’s Zamalek won the 2020 title after defeating Esperance, who lost their second consecutive final match.

In fact, the African Super Cup match had been postponed more than once due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

the Moroccan RS Berkane had already refused to play the match in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
