A change in the scheduling of the English Premier League matches next season due to the Winter World Cup
The British newspaper, “The Telegraph”, said that the English Football Association will cancel the scheduling of matches between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day during the Premier League matches schedule for next season, due to the Winter World Cup that will be held in Qatar.
The December 28 matches will be excluded this year in a bid to help facilitate the World Cup for players after the winter tournament that takes place in Qatar in November and December.
The newspaper said that the list of regular matches for that date has been changed due to concerns about the physical conditioning of the players who will return to their local duties on Boxing Day, just eight days after the World Cup final that will be held in Doha.
And the newspaper pointed out that the Premier League “will be announced in the club’s match lists on Thursday, and that its festive calendar will now include only Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and January 2” without matches between them.
The newspaper also pointed out that the Christmas calendar of Premier League matches will include three match days – December 26, December 29 and January 1, and that will be announced next week.
The FA Cup third round matches will take place over the weekend of January 7.
