Gareth Southgate Makes an Appeal to England Fans

England coach, Gareth Southgate, made an appeal to England fans, ahead of the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

Southgate said fans should respect Italy’s national anthem. When it plays before kick-off.

Some English fans booed as Denmark’s national anthem played before the two teams met in the semi-finals.

Moreover, the English fans booed as well when the German national anthem played. That was before Germany faced England in the round of 16 at Wembley.

The European Union imposed a fine of 30,000 euros on the English Football Association.

The penalty imposed was for an English fan directing laser lights at Denmark goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, during the match.

“It is important that our fans respect the competing teams.” Gareth Southgate told reporters on Saturday.

He continued, “We know it from playing outside. Booing when our country’s national anthem is playing, might be a motivation for us. So, I don’t think it will benefit the national team.”
