International Federation sanctions against Zamalek

International Federation of Association Football imposed sanctions against Zamalek of Egypt with a sum of 17 million dollars.

The sanctions come at a time when Zamalek is looking to restore balance after a period of administrative chaos.

Renewing Tunisian international Ferjani Sassi’s contract with the team was already complicated. Then, the sanctions due to external issues made things worse at the club.

The contract of Sassi, one of the team’s most prominent players in recent seasons, is a major dilemma. Another dilemma is the withdrawal of the club’s land in 6 October City.

The Vice-Chairman of the temporary committee in charge of running Al Zamalek, Mohamed Al-Etrebi, said, “The value of the sanctions imposed by FIFA on the club amounted to $17 million.

Al-Etrebi indicated, in televised statements on Wednesday morning, that some of the rulings are final. He also stressed that the complaints file in FIFA is a top priority for the administration at the present time.

He added that the administration is trying with all its might to resolve all the issues as soon as possible, reaching friendly solutions with all parties.

This is in order to restore balance to the club before handing over the task to the elected council, according to him.

Al-Etribi indicated that the current council, headed by Hussein Labib, fulfilled its promise regarding the payment of the dues of the team’s players during the last period.

He said, “Wait for a big financial recovery in the coming period in Zamalek. We will try until our last day to end all financial crises.”

El-Etreby considered Zamalek as financially ready to renew Ferjani Sassi’s contract. He explained that the club is awaiting the player’s position on the renewal.

Sassi postponed the controversial issue until after returning from the international break. He is participating in the national team camp now.

Egyptian press reports indicated that the Tunisian international was very close to signing for a Saudi club in the summer transfer window. This came after news spread that disengagement with Zamalek was approaching due to the financial crises.
