La Liga responds to Real Madrid’s president’s criticism on 4 points
The Spanish Football League, La Liga, issued an official statement today, Thursday, to respond to the criticism leveled by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez regarding Javier Tebas’ statements about Barcelona.
Perez said in an exclusive interview with Chiringuito that La Liga president Javier Tebas should become Barcelona’s sporting director and say who can sign him and who not, as well as his public criticism of the CVC agreement on television rights.
And the League confirmed in an official statement today, that it did not pressure, at any time or in any way, the president of FC Barcelona, Laporta, to urge him to join the Liga broadcast agreement.
The League’s statement was as follows:
In view of the statements made last night by the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, on the Chiringuito programme, La Liga would like to clarify the following:
1- La Liga did not pressure, at any time or in any way, the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, to urge him to join the La Liga broadcasting agreement.
2- At all times, what has been done is to meet the various information requirements that FC Barcelona requested from both LaLiga and the CVC.
3- Most of the League clubs, ie 38 out of 42 clubs, decided to join after analyzing the agreement individually and independently, with the support of their legal advisors.
4- Finally, we regret that Florentino Pérez, once again, questions the ability and independence of decision-making for the rest of the presidents and directors of La Liga clubs.
