Politano and Pellegrini excluded from Italy squad due to injury

The Italian Football Association announced today, Tuesday, the exclusion of Lorenzo Pellegrini of Roma and Matteo Politano, the star of Napoli, from the list of the Italian national team hospitalized for the European Nations League matches.

Italy coach Roberto Mancini called up SPAL’s Salvatore Eposito and Sampdoria’s Manolo Gabbiadini, instead of the injured pair.

Marco Verratti was injured and was also excluded from the Italy squad, and Manchetti called up David Frattisi instead.

Italy will play two matches during the current international break against England and Hungary in the European Nations League, in the last two rounds of the European Nations League group stage, during the month of September.

The Italian national team hosts its Italian counterpart on Friday, September 22, and then hosts the Hungarian national team on Monday, September 26.

Mancini, the coach of the Azzurri national team, called up 29 players for the matches against England and Hungary in the European Nations League, with the first appearances of goalkeepers Ivan Providel from Lazio and Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.

The Italian team occupies third place in the third group of the European Nations League, with 5 points, while the Hungarian team leads the group with 7 points.

Italy will miss the 2022 World Cup for the second time in a row, after failing to qualify through the last European qualifiers.
