Ferdinand: This is why Manchester United cannot do without Ronaldo

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has explained why his former club did not sell Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

The 37-year-old was absent from the Red Devils’ pre-season tour, and Sky Sports reported that the Portuguese wanted to leave the club in search of Champions League play.

“After this season, I think it will be a good question to answer,” Ferdinand told Sport Bible. “Last season, he was the top scorer. The club won’t let him go anywhere. Well, where are we going to find a player who scores 20 goals? If we let him go. Where do the 20 goals come from?

“It’s up to the coach to make a decision, can I count on Rashford, Martial, Sancho, Ilanga to fill that void?”

The former England defender added: “He’s not going to risk it, Martial hasn’t proven that yet enough, he was allowed on loan last season, and that tells you he’s someone they’re not 100% sure of, he hasn’t done it consistently enough.”

And he continued: Rashford last season was not consistent, Elanga is a young player, Sancho last season was his first, they all got something to prove this season which is good, I think, but you have one man if you put him on the field, he scores Objectives “
