Matic: Mourinho is the reason I joined Roma.. That’s why I left the Premier League
Serbian Nemanja Matic, the newcomer to Roma, confirmed his happiness to work again with Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho. The Italian club, Roma, has officially signed the Serbian Nemanja Matic from Manchester United during the current summer transfer period.
“As I said, we both know each other very well, I am very happy to work with him again, which is one of the reasons why I chose Roma,” Matic said at his press conference to be presented to the media on Monday.
Matic added, “Roma is an attractive club for any player, and I am very happy that I became a part of it. Only Frank Lampard has played more games than me under Mourinho, so I will try to break his record.”
And the new Roma player continued, “I am happy to be a player in the team now, because it includes a large number of players with great potential in addition to a group of promising young players, so I can’t wait to start training with them.”
In response to a question about the reason for his departure from the English Premier League, Matic explained, “I saw that it was time to look for a new challenge after 8 years of playing in the Premier League, as I said a while ago, Roma was a very attractive option, and I saw in my transfer to him the appropriate step. Playing in the Italian league is a big challenge, which is why I decided to leave Manchester United.”
And Roma had earlier issued an official statement, in which he said, “Matic, aged 33, has signed a one-year contract with the Giallorossi that will run until June 30, 2023.”
