Mbappe declines invitation to attend the 2022 World Cup draw in Qatar

Press reports revealed that the French striker, Kylian Mbappe, striker of Paris Saint-Germain and the France national team, refused an invitation to attend the 2022 World Cup draw in Qatar.

The French newspaper, L’Equipe, said that Qatar, which will host the World Cup at the end of this year, wished that France and Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe would attend the World Cup draw ceremony, which will be held on Friday in Doha, but he refused the invitation.

The newspaper confirmed that although there were exchanges between Qatari representatives and the French Football Federation to allow the 23-year-old striker, to attend the draw, but Mbabi refused the invitation.

And the newspaper added that Mbappe refused the Qatari invitation on the grounds that he is not the captain of the French national team, so he will not have any official status if he attends the draw ceremony.

The French national team is ranked first, along with host Qatar, Brazil, Belgium, Argentina, Spain, Portugal and England.

Mbappe, 23, the Paris Saint-Germain striker, raised his score to 26 international goals, after two goals in sweeping South Africa, last Tuesday, in a friendly 5-0 friendly match.

The draw will determine the position in which each of the 32 qualified teams will be placed, and the teams will be divided into 8 groups, thus deciding which teams will meet in the group stage of the tournament, which begins between November 21 and December 18 next.

The Qatar 2020 edition will be the last World Cup in which 32 teams will participate, and the number of participating teams will be increased to 48 starting from the next edition, scheduled for 2026, in Canada, the United States of America, and Mexico.

FIFA confirmed that the drawing of the draw will take place during a ceremony at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, tomorrow, Friday, where 29 teams out of 32 teams will be selected in the tournament groups.
