Egypt Group .. Okocha: We have players who can lock up Mohamed Salah

Former Nigeria captain Jay-Jay Okocha says his country’s squad for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon has enough talent to beat the national team in their opening group match on Tuesday.

Okocha said in statements published by the Nigerian newspaper “The Guardian”:

The Eagles have enough to prevent Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah from creating a threat in front of goal in Tuesday’s match.

Okocha commented:

“Salah is one of the biggest stars that will come in Cameroon, but also remember that the Super Eagles are full of big stars, we have players who can put Salah in a cage, even if it means deploying players to stop him.”

He added:

“The first game will be very important for Nigeria and I know coach Austin Iguafuin will want to put smiles on Nigerians’ faces.”

The fourth group of the African Nations Cup includes the teams of “Egypt, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, and Sudan”. The Pharaohs begin the group stage against Nigeria, then Guinea-Bissau, and conclude their confrontations with the Sudanese team.

The 33rd edition of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, will start on Sunday evening, after it was postponed for a whole year due to the repercussions of the Corona virus.

24 teams are competing to win the African title, as they have been divided into 6 groups, each comprising 4 teams. The first and second places in the six groups qualify for the Round of 16 of the African Nations, in addition to the best 4 thirds of the groups.

The African Championship kicks off with the opening match between the home team of Cameroon and the public against its counterpart Burkina Faso, at six in the evening, Sunday, and hosted by the “Paul Biya Stadium”, in the first group competitions.
