More than 1,100 electric buses dedicated to World Cup Qatar 2022 fans
Qatar dedicated more than 1,100 electric buses to transport the fans during the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Thus, the authorities continue to strengthen their efforts to organize the World Cup 2022 to be carbon-neutral.
This came according to what the Public Works Authority announced in coordination with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
The announcement indicated that there will be four electric bus stops to transport fans during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Director of Energy Efficiency and Conservation at Kahramaa, Abdulaziz Ahmed Al Hammadi, said that there will be more than 1,100 eventually.
During an event held by “Kahramaa” recently, Al-Hammadi talked about charging stations. He explained that they will build about 700 electric charging stations for these buses.
After the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Qatar will use these electric buses as public transportation in the country.
Al Hammadi said that these plans follow the directions of the senior leadership; all transportation for the fans will be electric during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
About electric vehicle charging stations, he said that 20 car charging stations have been installed in Qatar.
He pointed out that this was on the initiative of “Kahramaa” in coordination with other partners to encourage drivers to buy electric cars.
Al-Hammadi stated that charging stations for electric cars are available in the main “Kahramaa” headquarters.
In addition, charging stations will be available in the “Kahramaa” building in Abu Hamour, Qatar Foundation, and some hotels.
“The strategy for electric vehicles and charging stations will be announced in the third quarter (Q3) of 2021,” he added.
He showed that the strategy covers all issues related to the specifications and number of car charging stations.
Furthermore, the strategy covers the auto-charging stations’ system and the follow-up and cooperation unit in partnership between the government and the private sector.
He indicated that the strategy is under study and they will announce it after its completion.
