Mourinho is close to coaching Portugal to succeed Santos


Press reports revealed that Jose Mourinho, coach of Roma, is close to taking over the technical leadership of the Portugal national team to succeed current coach Fernando Santos, after farewell to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

93.5% of Portugal fans demanded the dismissal of Fernando Santos after the painful exit from the 2022 World Cup against the Atlas Lions.



The Italian newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport” reported that the Portuguese Federation held negotiations with Mourinho in order to succeed Santos in coaching his country, after the painful exit from the 2022 World Cup.

The newspaper added that the negotiations of the Portuguese Football Association with Mourinho, take the direction of taking over the coaching of Portugal part-time while continuing his duties as coach of the Italian team Roma.

It is worth noting that Jose Mourinho won the Europa Conference League last season 2021-2022, becoming the first coach to achieve all continental championships in addition to the Champions League and the Europa League.
