Nagelsmann: We have ambitions to win the German Cup

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that his team has the ambition to win the German Cup this season, as the Bavarians face Augsburg in the second round of the German Cup, and indicated that Manuel Neuer, his main goalkeeper, will be absent due to injury.

“Neuer is still feeling some pain,” Nagelsmann said during the press conference on Tuesday. “We hope he will be back in the weekend match against Hoffenheim, but we need to wait and see.”

On Leroy Sane: “Leroy Sane will be out for 2-3 weeks. In Leroy’s case, there is no major tear in the muscle fibers. I expect two or three weeks of downtime. We will see how his treatment progresses.”

And about Mazraoui, he said: “Mazraoui did not train with the team today because of muscle problems. He is still suffering from some muscle problems after the match against Freiburg. He will go with us to Augsburg, but tomorrow we will have to see what makes sense for the team.”

On the possibility of losing and exiting the tournament early, he commented: “This is indeed a topic that should definitely not happen to us for the third time. We have the ambition to win the cup. First we have to beat Augsburg tomorrow, this is our mission.”

And about the number of injuries in the team, he said: “We are doing our best to prevent it, and we take into account all the circumstances, the rhythm is what it is, it is annoying when the players are injured. You can rotate, and that is also important.”
