Qatari Beach Volleyball Team Wins a Gold Medal in Mexico

On Sunday, the Qatari beach volleyball team made an important step on its way to participating in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 next summer.

The Qatari team won the gold medal in the World Tour Cancun Hub in Mexico.

The Qatari team “the Maroon” clinched the title of Cancún Hub – 3rd event Beach Volleyball World Tour 2021 “Men and Women”, the “4-star” category.

The gold medal achieved by the Qatar beach volleyball team came at the expense of its Russian opponent.

The Qatar beach volleyball team is represented by Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, who is ranked first in Asia and the Arab world.

The Qatar national team duo defeated the Russian duo, consisting of Konstantin Semenov and Ilya Leshukov.

The Qatari team defeated the Russian team by two sets to zero, with the results of (21-15) and (21-12).

Winning this tournament gives the winning team ranking points that lead them to participate in the upcoming Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

As a result, the “Maroon” won the first-place prize of $20,000 and 800 points.

The Qatari team beat their US team, made up of duo Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser. Thus, they qualified for the final match of the tournament.

The “Maroon” beat “Uncle Sam” by two sets to zero, with results of (21-15) and (21-17).

Moreover, the Qatari Beach Volleyball Team had achieved the silver medal in the first and second events of the Cancún Hub World Tour.

Therefore, the Qatari beach volleyball team is close to qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 directly.

The Qatar volleyball team ranks tenth with 5,080 points according to the FIVB.

The Qatar Volleyball Federation had succeeded in organizing the Katara Beach Volleyball Cup last March under the supervision of the International Volleyball Federation.

In fact, this tournament has a four-star rating.

The games took place at the Al Gharafa Beach Games Area, between 8-12 March.

The tournament is one of the FIVB tournaments for the 2020-2021 sports season at the 4-star level.
