Real Madrid officially announced today, Monday, that Brazilian player Vinicius Junior has obtained Spanish citizenship after acquiring a Spanish passport.

 

Real Madrid confirmed, in an official statement on its website and account on Twitter, that Vinicius swore allegiance to the Spanish constitution last Friday.

 

Vinicius has Brazilian and Spanish citizenship, which opens more options for Real Madrid.

 

Vinicius applied for Spanish citizenship last year, but did not obtain it until this month.

 

And the Spanish radio “Cadena Ser” indicated, earlier, that the reason for the delay in the Spanish government’s approval of the request is the huge number of requests for naturalization, and that the Spanish Ministry of Justice has more than 300,000 requests for citizenship already.

 

The report indicated that only 30 employees look into these requests, and they do not approve more than 50,000 or 60,000 requests during the year.
