Real Madrid outperforms its traditional rival Barcelona, during the two teams’ confrontations at the level of the Spanish Super Cup, before the expected El Clasico meeting between them at nine in the evening, Wednesday, in the semi-finals of the Super Cup, at “King Fahd Stadium” in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Real Madrid and Barcelona met in the Spanish Super Cup in 14 matches. The Royal won 8 matches against 4 in favor of the Catalan team, and settled a tie in two matches.
Real Madrid beat Barcelona in their first match in the Spanish Super Cup, in its old system, which takes place back and forth, with a score of 2-0 in the first leg in September 1988, while Barcelona won the second leg with a score of 1-2.
The biggest result between the two teams in the Super Cup was 4-1 in favor of Real Madrid twice in 1990 and 1997.
The royal team succeeded in winning the last two matches in the Spanish Super, back and forth, 3-1 and 2-0 in 2017.
Barcelona holds the record for winning the Spanish Super Cup with 13 titles, compared to 11 titles for Real Madrid.
It is noteworthy that Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup for the eleventh time in its history, after defeating Atletico Madrid on penalties in the final match in January 2020 in Saudi Arabia, while Athletic defeated the Catalan team by three goals to two in the 2021 final.
Real Madrid beat Barcelona in the first round of the Spanish league this season, 2-1, in the tenth round last October at the “Santiago Bernabeu”.
