Riyad Mahrez: We are ready to face Cameroon, and we seek to make the Algerian people happy

Riyad Mahrez, the star of Manchester City and the Algerian national team, confirmed his team’s readiness to face his Cameroonian counterpart, scheduled for Friday evening, at Jaboma Stadium, in the first leg of the final African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Mahrez spoke at the match’s press conference, saying: “We worked very well, in preparation for this match. All the players are ready, aware of the task ahead of them, and the importance of these two matches that qualify to play in the 2022 World Cup.”

He added, “We have to be on time during tomorrow’s confrontation, and to make the Algerian people proud of this team. Our participation in the last Cannes and failure in it has become a thing of the past, and we learned a lot from this participation.”

On the historical superiority of the Cameroon national team, the Algerian captain said: “The past does not matter much to us, and the failure to win historically against Cameroon is also unimportant. We are now in the year 2022 and the best will win and qualify for the World Cup.”

He concluded his speech by saying: “Qualifying for the World Cup remains the dream of every player. The World Cup in Qatar is an important event and every player wants to participate in it.”

It is worth noting that the return leg will bring the two teams together on Tuesday, March 29th, at the “Mustafa Tchaker” stadium in Algeria
