Robbie Fowler: Renewing Salah’s contract is complicated… and Liverpool will not break the salary barrier
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler gave his opinion on Mohamed Salah’s statements regarding his future at the club, as his contract with the Reds expires in 2023 and he has not yet agreed to the extension.
The Egyptian international confirmed that he will remain at the club next season, however Fowler believes that Salah threatened the club by emphasizing this.
In an article for the English newspaper “Mirror”, Fowler said, “This begs the question, what calculations did they make on Salah? Again I don’t know all the answers, but what I see very clearly is that they do not break their salary structure to keep it, if they are willing to do so, It would have happened now.”
The Reds legend admits that Salah has already consolidated himself as one of Liverpool’s greatest players in the five years he spent with the club.
Fowler said, “He is the winner of the Golden Boot award in the English Premier League, the best footballer of the year, and among the top three players competing for the Ballon d’Or, what is the salary that a player gets in the top three in the world? It is clear that he thinks that More than Liverpool.
He added, “But if my old team manages complicated calculations, then Salah is too, I think he said no matter what happens with his contract, he will be at Anfield next year was clearly a threat.”
And he continued, “There is another calculation, I tend to believe that Liverpool are currently running, will he be the same player next summer? Look, he’s been one of the best players in the world for a long time now, but since the beginning of a year, he has been at his usual level very average.”
The Egyptian player has produced an outstanding performance for Jurgen Klopp’s side since joining from Roma in 2017, scoring 156 goals and 63 assists in 254 games which is absolutely exceptional.
