In statements reported by the BBC, the president of the Senegalese Football Association said: I did not see the projectiles that were thrown from the stands. And Augustine Senghor added: I did not see any bad behavior in the match, because the Senegalese are known for their warm welcome.
In the same context, the international newspapers attacked the Senegalese team after the violence and riots committed by its fans against Egypt in the “Abdullah Wade” stadium, in the match that brought them together and ended with penalty kicks 1-3 in favor of the Teranga Lions and qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The first leg match between Egypt and Senegal in the World Cup qualifying stage ended 1-0 in favor of the Pharaohs, then the Teranga Lions won with a clean goal in the second leg, and then the match went to penalty kicks, then the Pharaohs lost 1-3 and Sadio Mane and his companions qualified for the World Cup in Qatar.
The English newspaper “The Sun”, titled “The Shame of the World Cup”, to respond to what happened in the match by the Senegalese fans in the stands, including riots and violence, and constantly shining laser lights during the penalty shootout.
