President of the Spanish Federation: Europe’s file to organize the 2030 World Cup is supported by “FIFA and UEFA”

Luis Rubiales, President of the Spanish Football Federation, confirmed that the file of Spain, Portugal and Ukraine, who are strong candidates for organizing the 2030 World Cup, enjoys the support of the International Federation, European Union, FIFA, and UEFA.

“We are continuing our journey to host the World Cup. We can do it within a few months, but with the time and seriousness that we are working on, we are serious candidates. The Spanish government supports our request and supports us strongly,” the president of the Spanish Federation said during the meeting of the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Federation.

Rubiales added, in statements highlighted by Cadena COPE: “We are still the only sports federation that does not receive normal aid from the Supreme Sports Council, but this aid of 7.5 million is very good for us and we will try to reach an agreement for the year 2024 that increases this aid.”

Rubiales explained that the grant amounting to 7.5 million euros, which was approved two days ago by the Council of Ministers to prepare for the candidacy, with part of it being used for infrastructure.

Through a recorded message, at the beginning of the meeting, FIFA President Gianni Infantino congratulated the Spanish Federation for its work in men’s and women’s football, and UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin emphasized that “Spain remains synonymous with excellence.”

Rubiales added: “To be recognized as being at the level both at the European and global levels means that you do things very well and that this federation has the broadest possible goals that you will achieve.”

Spain and Portugal announced their desire to organize the 2030 World Cup with a joint file since June 2021, before Ukraine joined the file to become a European file and enjoy unconditional support from UEFA.

The bid from Spain, Portugal and Ukraine will compete with a joint bid from South America made by Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile, in addition to a joint bid from Egypt, Greece and Saudi Arabia.

FIFA President Infantino said during the World Cup finals in Qatar that the decision of the countries that will host the 2030 World Cup will be announced in 2024.
