The legend of Liverpool demands the speedy renewal of the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has called for the rapid renewal of the contracts of Egyptian international stars Mohamed Salah and Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk and expressed confidence that the two will agree on new contracts at Anfield.

The Reds have already succeeded in signing French defender Ibrahim Konate while new contracts have been signed with Brazilian duo Alisson and Fabinho and full back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Salah and Van Dijk may be next in the matter of contract renewals but Fowler believes more reinforcements are needed for the 2019-20 Premier League champions to return to the competition for major titles.

Fowler, who has scored 183 goals in two stints with the Reds, told The Mirror:

“I know that Liverpool are very focused on securing their stars with long contracts, but I would be surprised if they don’t sign a big deal before the Mercato.”

He added :

“It’s a big season for them after the injuries that destroyed the team last season. Don’t get me wrong, having players like Alisson, Fabinho and the rest until 2026 and beyond is huge and I think they will convince Salah and Van Dijk to agree to new contracts as well and this is the basis for a great match.”

“Players don’t live in bubbles, they can see what’s happening elsewhere and see their opponents sign autographs they know will make a difference and they want their club to do the same.”

He continued, “Signing with a player he knows well and can make a difference can be huge in morale as well as results. As the season begins, there is a real buzz and a sense of excitement.”

He concluded: “As long as nothing happens, I am more than happy with the squad I have, I am more than happy with the players I own and we have a great team and something may happen until the end of the transfer period, but I cannot say anything about that at the moment.”
