UEFA: Villarreal tops the Spanish clubs
According to UEFA, Villarreal tops the Spanish clubs, behind Manchester City and Chelsea.
The Spanish Yellow submarine won the Europa League title. And the European Super Cup match, between Villarreal and Chelsea, is scheduled to take place at Windsor Park. Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, will host the European Super Cup on August 11.
In fact, Villarreal has won the Europa League this season, at the expense of Manchester United. With this, Villarreal achieved the Europa League for the first time in its history.
The Yellow Submarine scored a dramatic victory over the Red Devils, 11-10 on penalties after the time ended with a 1-1 draw.
The Spanish team had opened the scoring through Gerard Moreno in the 29th minute. Then Manchester United equalized the score through Edinson Cavani in the 55th minute.
With this tournament, the Spanish team secured its participation in the Champions League next season.
Meanwhile, Chelsea won the Champions League this season, at the expense of Manchester City.
UEFA Ranking: Villarreal Tops Spanish Clubs
Villarreal has become the third-best European club, according to the UEFA classification, after the end of the 2020-2021 sports season.
Villarreal scored 30,000 points. Thus, it comes behind the two sides of the Champions League final. They are Manchester City (35 thousand points), as well as Chelsea (33 thousand points).
The Yellow submarine topped the other Spanish teams, as Real Madrid came in second place, Spain-wise, with 26,000 points. Then came Barcelona with 20,000 points. Seville, 19,000 points, came fourth, then Atletico Madrid, 16 thousand points, fifth.
Villarreal, who won the Europa League this season, raised their overall ranking among European clubs.
Moreover, Spanish coach Unai Emery’s team has risen to 22nd place in the last 5 years, and 31st place in the last 10 years.
In fact, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Seville, and Valencia were ahead of Villarreal in the rankings last year.
Also, the Yellow Submarine ranked sixth in the UEFA classification of the last decade.
