Villarreal against Man United .. Carrick reassures the fans of the devils before the Champions League match
Michael Carrick, the interim coach of Manchester United, assured the fans that the team will be ready for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Villarreal, which brings them together in the fifth round of Group F of the Champions League, at the “La Ceramica” stadium.
It will be the club’s first match since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, following the 4-1 defeat at Watford on Saturday that became the Norwegian’s last game.
“We have a big game to prepare for, it’s an honor to be in this position now, I understand the responsibility that comes with that, and now the focus is on moving forward quickly. That’s what this club does well; that’s what,” Carrick said in the pre-match press conference. This club has done well throughout its history.”
He added in statements published on the club’s official website, “We are very much looking forward to the match, and we will go there with a positive mind and behavior. The boys will be ready for that. We can’t wait for the match to start.”
Journalists later asked Carrick if there was any indication of how long he might remain as coach, but the 40-year-old said he was looking no further than Tuesday’s Champions League test.
Carrick explained, “My focus is only on tomorrow night’s match. I know the club very well. The length of my stay as a coach is not in my mind.”
“It’s a big game tomorrow and I’ll do the job as I do. We’re positive. It’s a great football match and we’re going to experience it, but these are the nights we have to remember. I’m really looking forward to it.”
“How to manage the team during the match, is very clear in my mind.”
Carrick was also quick to pay tribute to Solskjaer’s work, and the respect and affection that remains for him at the club.
“Seeing Ole losing his job yesterday was hard for me,” he said. “You can tell from the feelings around the place how much everyone here respects him.”
“It was a pleasure working with him, and it was a sad day for me.”
Manchester United is at the top of the Group F table in Champions League, with 7 points, and comes behind Villarreal with a goal difference, then Atlanta third with 5 points, and finally Young Boys with 3 points.
Manchester United and Villarreal are fighting for the first qualification to the round of 16 in the European Champions League, as the victory of one of them will lead them to this role officially, regardless of the outcome of the sixth and final round.
