Watford club announced today, Tuesday, the appointment of veteran Roy Hodgson as the team’s new technical director, to replace Italian Claudio Ranieri, who was sacked due to poor results.
Ranieri’s dismissal came in light of Watford’s poor results during the recent period, the latest of which was the 3-0 defeat against Norwich City this week in the Premier League.
A club statement said: “Watford FC is pleased to confirm the appointment of Roy Hodgson as technical director of the club, and joins former England coach and trusted assistant Ray Lewington, who managed the team admirably from 2002 to 2005.
The 74-year-old is best known for leading the Three Lions over a four-year period spanning the Euro 2012, 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016. Hodgson has also worked extensively at club level in England and around the world.
Roy Hogson’s last training experience with Crystal Palace was from 2017 to 2021.
Watford occupies the 19th and penultimate position in the English Premier League table this season with 14 points, while Manchester City leads with 57 points.
