Xavi refused to coach Barcelona Twice

The coach of the Qatari club, Al Sadd, and former Barcelona player, Xavi Hernandez, revealed that he refused to coach Barcelona more than once.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi said, “I renewed for two years with Al Sadd. We are very satisfied. However, I am also open to offers from other clubs.”

He added, “Family is my priority now. And I don’t feel the need to leave. I’m fine the way I am. I learn, I make mistakes, and I’m involved in a very attractive project. It is not only related to Al Sadd but extends to the World Cup in Qatar as well. Now, we are one year away from it.”

Twice, Xavi refused to coach Barcelona

Xavi continued, “When I arrived in Barcelona, they were waiting for me at the airport. As soon as I arrived, I received questions, ‘Did Barca talk to you?’ Well, no. First, because there is a coach we have to respect. Then, because I’m not in a hurry.”

Xavi added, “I got offers to coach Barcelona, but the time was not right for that. I don’t want to rush. Xabi Alonso said a few days ago that he wanted to be a coach in his own way. I agree.”

He concluded, “Luckily, or unfortunately, I said no to Barcelona twice, due to different circumstances, family and professional. I say that it is not very difficult because I am a culé. But it wasn’t the right time.”

Earlier, Al Sadd had announced the renewal of Xavi’s contract until 2023.

The Spanish coach expressed his happiness after the renewal with the administration of Al Sadd, to complete his achievements with the Qatari club.

“I am very happy to complete my two-year journey with Al Sadd. We want to improve and develop with the team,” Xavi said.

Xavi’s journey with Al Sadd began in 2019. During this period, he won 6 local championships with the team and performed well in the AFC Champions League. But he did not win it with Al Sadd.
